Abstract

This community service activity was carried out in Bama Village with the aim of improving fertilization efficiency in maize cultivation through the application of an NPK fertilizer applicator made from PVC pipes. The tool was designed in a simple way using easily available materials such as PVC pipes, plugs, and springs, so that it can be assembled and directly used by farmers. The implementation method included needs analysis, tool design and construction, socialization and training, as well as field trials. The trial results showed several advantages, including more even distribution of fertilizer around the plants, faster fertilization compared to manual methods, reduced physical workload for farmers as they no longer need to bend repeatedly, and more efficient fertilizer use due to better dosage control. Thus, the application of this PVC-based fertilizer applicator has proven to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of fertilization, while supporting the principles of appropriate technology that is low-cost and easy for farmers to apply.
